Musical discoveries: Whitecave – Time of Trouble

Sometimes I have a lot of regrets, that I left the progworld for nearly a decade. So much I missed…so much to catch up on. But at the same time I also have a realisation! There is a lot of music for me to discover! And that makes me happy!

Recently I discovered the Dutch progressive rockband Whitecave. Well, more like Whitecave discovered me 😉 at the end of 2024, I did a review of the Philhelmon album Into the Mist of Time, a beautiful album, with several guestmusicians. In the video I only mentioned a few well-known names, but I show the complete list of guestmusicians. And in that list you’ll find the name Hans Holema, who plays guitars and synths on the album.

Hans reached out to me, to let me know about his band Whitecave. And he was kind enough to send me a copy of the album, which was released in 2022. I really enjoyed the album, so I decided to do a review of it, that is why you are reading this.

The album was reviewed by the likes of Progwereld and Background Magazine, yet the band has just over 300 followers on facebook. I do think this band deserves more attention, more followers and more people listening to their album, Times of Trouble!

Since I am really interested to the story behind Whitecave, the album Times of Trouble and Hans’ contributions to the Philhelmon album, you can expect an interview with Hans somewhere in the not too distant future!
