A new chapter for Subsignal
About six months after I got back into prog, I went to see Subsignal, who were on tour supporting their latest album A Poetry of Rain. Subsignal has been a special band to me. I discovered them when I did a video review of their second album Touchstones, which I absolutely loved. But the love for the band was solidified by two things: listening to their third album, Paraiso (and of course doing a video review of it!) And I will admit…the video looks a little bit sponsored, as the band sent me a package with two versions of the album as well as a t-shirt!
The second thing was to see them live and do an inteview with them. This interview is somewhat legendary! I went there with a few friends (one of them the current chief editor of the Dutch Progwereld website, Hans Ravensbergen) and we did the interview in the tourbus. This was a lot of fun, current bassplayer of Subsignal, Martijn Horsten, was also there, but outside teh camera view and along the way a lot happened, but it was really amazing. If you haven;t seen it, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyspi5lZ1Yw
So I was eager to reconnect with the band and when we entered the venue, I ran into Arno (Menses) and his recation on seeing me, really touched me! I believe he was just as happy to see me as I was to see him! And of course I met with Markus (Steffen) and chatted with him and met the rest of the band and had a fantasic evening, despite the few people who were at the venue. The band played a kick ass show.
The interview was mentioned and both Arno and Markus said they’d be up for another one. So a whil after the gig, I contacted them and invited them for a livestream. But I got a response that there were some things happening in the band, so now was not the time for an inteview. I stayed in touch with Markus and months passed and it seemed less likely that there would be an interview and I gathered that there might not be a Subsignal anymore!
In january it almost worked out, although the future of Subsignal was not a topic of the interview, but me being ill stopped that. So again months went by, until June and Markus got back in touch with me and this time we managed to make it work. I was really happy to be able to speak with him again and fortunately things changed and Subsignal is still having a future!
