Michael Riesenbeck talks about his latest solo album Courage

Michael Riesenbeck may not be a household name, but he has been active as guitarplayer, drummer, songwriter and performer for almost 40 years. in his career he worked with various tribute bands, very notably Fanfields, a fan’s tribute to Toto, which is also supported by the members of Toto! But also a tribute to the Dutch band Vitesse and recently Snake Union, a tribute to Duran Duran.

But Michael also brought original music, going back to the late 80s and 90s, where he worked withdifferent bands. And in the early 00s he released his first solo album, Shouting Silence.In 2014 his second solo album, II, was released. And in 2025Michael Riesenbeck released his 3rd solo album: Courage.

Now, to be honest, it is not a prog album. Michael’s music is more melodic hard rock. That said, it is really great music! I have absolutely enjoyed listening to it and will keep listening to it. And it turns out the Dutch prog website Progwereld also reviewed his albums…all of them!

Michael and I got in touch about his music, I listened and did sem reading and was interested. So I invited Michael for an interview. He offered to come donw to LiveProgHQ and we had a wonderful chat about his latest album Courage, of which he shares a few really great stories, and we talk about his musical projects in general. Including some thoughts on putting music on Spotify and other streaming platforms!
