The stunning debut of Emerald City Council
Earlier this year I watched a video by Scot Lade of The Prog Corner, who gave a lot of praise to the debut album of Emerald City Council, Motion Carries. So I got curious and found the album on my streaming service, Tidal. After having listened to the album a few times, I could only agree with Scot and wanted to have a copy of the album myself.
So I ordered a copy at Just For Kicks Music, together with two other great albums (The Flower Kings and Jadis) and decided to do my own review of the album, as I was very impressed.
Emerald City Council started as an idea of a professor in music at the Arkansas State University, who was also a saxophone player and wanted to create music featuring the saxophone, that was not jazz. He found several great musicians to join him and singer Jake Livgren to front the band (because eventualy became an actual band).
The album Motion Carries is indeed a fine album, with an interesting blend of progrock, even ncluding a 20 minute epic!
