Interview: Sykofant from Norway – Proudly wearing the Pink Floyd influences
Early in 2024, the Norwegian band Sykofant released their self-titled (or nameless) debut album. As a starting band needs a lot of help promoting their music, they reached out to several media outlets and they also reached out to LiveProg. At the time I was still busy reviving LiveProg, so things didn;t work out, but I got to hear their music and that was really good.
About a year later, the band reached out again. They had new music out, en EP, and checked if I was interested. Again, I got a digital promo and again I liked the music. There was one song, though, that stood out, as it had a very upfront Pink Floyd touch, a bit of Dark Side of the Moon…So I became more curious and this time it did work out and I welcomed guitarist and singer Emil Moen to the podcast.
Already on their debut album, i heard this lovely vintage sound and so we talked about the origins of the band, they starte dout as just a few friends jamming together, to recording their music and what was involved and of course: what the deal was with the Pink Floyd influences.
Full disclosure: Emil and I recorded the podcast at the end of April, via Skype. It was such a wonderful interview and I even got a compliment afterwards! But shortly after the interview, disaster struck! Something went wrong with Skype and either the interview was not recorded or something happened to the file of the recording. Either way, fantastic interview, no recording. I was quite devastated…
Emil was a really amazing guy and his first reaction was, to do the interview again. Of course that has one downside: it will never be as spontaneous as the first time. But still, a few weeks later we met again, this time via a paid subscription to Zoom and things worked out. We again did a great interview and this time I did have a recording…
